From Our President

Welcome to Sigma Delta Tau-Alpha Nu Chapter! I’m Sadie Shaw, Chapter President. I am currently a sophomore here at Wisconsin studying Psychology, Consulting, and Health Policy. While I am from Milwaukee, I moved multiple times during my childhood, being born in Pittsburgh and growing up in Tampa. Through all these places, I have found another home, the one I am most grateful for everyday, Sigma Delta Tau.

When I went through recruitment as a freshman, I was unsure what type of chapter I wanted to join, what girls I wanted to surround myself with. Throughout the rounds, there was always one house that eased my nerves and felt like home, SDT. After joining SDT, I found my lifelong best friends and saw how this chapter would truly change my life. SDT has become the place where I can be my true self and feel loved by so many others similar to me. My sorority family has become my rock, my place for advice, and a shoulder to lean on. From living in the House, Sisterhood Events, date parties, formals, and incredible philanthropy events, there is no doubt SDT has made me the person I am today. Growing up, I always saw myself joining a sorority, but I never would have imagined the opportunities and leadership roles presented to me. I'm not known to be a serious person, and I never saw myself as a leader, but I am eternally grateful my sisters have been able to see something in me and bring out the best in me. Over the last year I served as the Director of Health and Wellness on the Board of Directors, where I had the opportunity to plan our Wellness Week each semester, and become a resource for sisters. I learned planning and communication through this role, and importantly built my confidence to become a leader in the chapter. Along with that, I have had the opportunity to also serve as Script and Production Director for our Humorology cast. Humorology, also known as “Humo”, is one of the longest standing traditions in Wisconsin Greek Life. In this role I gained experience leading large groups, and directing a musical that raises money for a local organization here in Madison. If it weren't for SDT, I would have never gotten the chance to have such incredible opportunities, where I can evolve my skills and truly flourish as an individual.

Coming to Wisconsin as a nervous freshman, I had a million emotions. I was used to being the “new kid” at school and wasn't sure if I would find my place. There is so much unpredictability at such a large school, even if you live 1.5 hours from campus like me. However, through SDT I found a constant source of unconditional love, support, and sisterhood. I am eternally grateful for the sisters and leadership brought to me by SDT. I cannot wait to see what my year as president brings, and the knowledge and confidence I will gain from leading. I am so excited to see the ways in which our chapter will grow and continue to be a place so many incredible girls call home.

Love n' Sig,

Sadie Shaw
